BAPTISM DEBATE WITH R.C SPROUL AND JOHN MACARTHUR

As Charles Spurgeon and John MacArthur share the same birthday on June 19, I will present this debate with John MacArthur and the late R.C Sproul where they debate on whether infants should be baptized.

Just a note of reminder, I am for infant baptism and I know many Christians who cannot agree with it but nevertheless, I am not breaking fellowship with them. As long as they believe in Jesus Christ as King, I count them as my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Today my friend, co-defender of the truth and theological giant is standing in the presence of our Lord whom he loved and served faithfully. R.C. Sproul has stood with me for decades in every major theological controversy and I will dearly miss him. There is no one like him.

Baptism Debate with R.C. Sproul and John MacArthur

The church’s practice of infant baptism came under attack in the sixteenth century. Since that time, many Christian churches have rallied against the practice, administering baptism only to believing adults. From Ligonier Ministries’ 1997 Pasadena Regional Conference, Drs. John MacArthur Jr. and R.C. Sproul discuss their views on the biblical meaning and mode of Christian baptism. Dr. MacArthur presents the credobaptist position and Dr. Sproul presents the historic paedo(infant) Baptist position.

It is this one Spirit who makes it possible for an infant to be regenerated . . . when that infant is brought to baptism; and it is through this one Spirit that the infant so presented is reborn. For it is not written, 'Unless a man be born again by the will of his parents' or 'by the faith of those presenting him or ministering to him,' but, 'Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit.' The water, therefore, manifesting exteriorly the sacrament of grace, and the Spirit effecting interiorly the benefit of grace, both regenerate in one Christ that man who was generated in Adam. - Augustine of Hippo

In Colossians 2:12 and 1 Peter 3:21 baptism is an expression of the faith of the person being baptized. I [do] not see how an infant could properly receive this ordinance as an expression of his or her faith. – John Piper

DAVE RUBIN IS NO LONGER AN ATHEIST

“We should be more worried about the government taking away our free speech rather than us taking it away from ourselves.” – Dave Rubin

Dave Rubin is one of my favourite political commentators. Although he holds many liberal views, I do love him for not only being a comedian but his willingness to engage anybody in debate, regardless of their religion or views. He no longer identifies as a progressive after becoming disillusioned with the left’s increasing disregard for concepts such as freedom of speech, religious liberty and judging people on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. If You see this video, he invited Christian Apologist, Ravi Zacharias.

He supports free speech and loves debate. I also appreciate the fact that he will still talk to anyone nicely and even if he disagrees with them, he will not discriminate. For example, he is gay and he said that even if a baker refuses to bake him a gay cake, he will find another and promise to leave him alone.

He is an unbeliever and he once explained why he is sceptic about believing in God.

“An atheist isn't denying that a god or gods exist, an atheist is just asking evidence for such an incredible claim. All this really means is applying the same standard of belief in pretty much anything else you do in your life to the biggest questions of the universe.” – Dave Rubin

Thank God that in 2019, he did announce on The Big Conversation Season 2 that he is no longer an atheist.

Dave Rubin talks about his Jewish background, the period when he called himself an atheist and why he no longer wears that label, partly thanks to the influence of Jordan Peterson.

For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. – II Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)

Let us pray for him that he will come to Christ:

Dear Father God we pray for the salvation of men and women throughout our world that have not come to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord we know that it is not Your will that any one should perish but that all should come to faith in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour.

Father we lift the lost to You and pray that in Your long-suffering mercy You would draw close to each and every one and we pray that the light of Your love would shine into their hearts – and that the truth of Your Word would convict their inner soul of their need of a Saviour.

Thank You for sending Christ Jesus into the world – to be born into the human race and live among us. Thank You that He was willing to die on the cross for sinners – to give His life as a ransom for many, so as to provide salvation for all who would believe in Him as Saviour.

We plead Your gracious mercy on all unbelievers today and ask that You would snatch them from the jaws of evil and bring them to saving faith in Christ. This we ask in His precious name,

Amen.
